Growing Calls For Accountability

More than 40 organizations and prominent Canadians have sent out statements of support and reacted to the new pathology report, demanding accountability of the guards who killed Soleiman Faqiri.

This came after Ontario’s chief forensic pathologist released a new pathology report which has now determined that the actions of the guards led to the death of Soleiman, nullifying a 2017 report which found his death to be “unascertained”.

Statements were from prominent organizations such as the Ontario New Democratic Party, the Schizophrenia Society of Canada, the Canadian Association of Elizabeth Fry Societies and Arch Disability Law Centre.

About the Movement

Justice for Soli was founded by Soleiman’s eldest brother, Yusuf Faqiri, only one or two days after his brother’s murder in December 2016. In early 2017, the McMaster Muslims for Peace and Justice became the first organization to completely throw its support behind Justice for Soli, transforming what was once a small group of friends and family into a larger social justice movement with hundreds of supporters. Today, over 100 organizations are affiliated with Justice for Soli, supporting the movement in its fight for justice, transparency and accountability.
